GOA physicians perform many minimally invasive surgeries through a single small incision in the umbilicus (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery, or “SILS“). Unlike traditional laparoscopic or robotic surgery, no muscle layers of the abdominal wall are pierced during SILS procedures. Postoperative discomfort is minimal. GOA physicians have previously reported a SILS method that results in a barely visible incision in the umbilicus….a superior cosmetic result (Rettenmaier MA, Abaid LN, Erwin MR, John CR, Micha JP, Brown JV, Goldstein BH. A Retrospective Review of the GelPort System in Single-Port Access Pelvic Surgery. J Min Invasive Gynecol 2009; 16:743-7).
GOA physicians provide services to low-income women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer through the Federally funded Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program (BCCTP). Women who meet Federal requirements are eligible for full-scope Medi-Cal at no cost to them for the duration of their cancer treatment.
If you believe you might be a candidate for this program please let us know and we will direct you to one of our business representatives for screening.
