This intra-operative photograph
shows a Stage IIIC ovarian cancer prior to debulking. These cancers
often intercalate between abdominal organs (as in this example). In
this presentation the cancer adheres to structures in the abdomen like glue
poured into a bowl of spaghetti. Optimal debulking often requires
resection of portions of involved organs. Aggressive initial surgery
is rewarded with dramatically improved overall survival. |
