Both ovaries are replaced
by adenocarcinoma presenting as complex masses containing both solid and
cystic (fluid filled) areas. Resection of ovarian cancers like this
often requires only an abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingoophorectomy
(removal of ovaries) and biopsies of areas of the abdomen at risk of harboring
metastatic deposits of cancer. With few exceptions, all ovarian cancers
require chemotherapy after the initial surgical procedure. |
